Writing Workshop 12: Random isn’t all Bad

During a poetry workshop, we were given different books of different genres. Our first assignment had the workshop leader provide us with five random words as inspiration to write a poem. Then, we had to randomly pick out five words either from the same book or from different sources.

I decided to choose from different sources and ended up titling the poem: 5 Words. The poem also got accepted on the e-zine, work to a calm. You can see the results of this process on the website. The italicized words were the five words I chose.

This is a great way to get the juices flowing to write a poem. You never know where the words might lead you to. I know I didn't when I started!
The five words can also help as writing warm-ups. So, don’t hesitate to try it when you get stuck. You never know when a story will appear.

p.s. There might not be a post added to my blog next week. My computer will be going through some maintenance. As always, please feel free to browse your favorite posts or go back and peruse ones you missed. Thanks for reading!
